St. Lawrence And The Coming Ships Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGDHD IJIJKDKD LMLMNDND

I cannot loiter on my wayA
The ice is drifting through Belle IsleB
And far to seaward by Cape RayA
Broad leagues of open water smileB
Unheeded now the inland bargeC
Creeps heavily the fisher dipsD
His meshes in my brimming margeC
I go to meet the coming shipsD
-
They steam from Thames by Dover StraitE
They cleave the Bristol Channel's tideF
They pass the Mersey's thronging gateE
And issue from the crowded ClydeF
Out past the homing craft they sheerG
The Irish coastline by them slipsD
Ere many days they will be hereH
I go to meet the coming shipsD
-
Full fraught with wealth of merchandiseI
They plough the main with furrows deepJ
Upon the waves they sink and riseI
But onward onward ever keepJ
And some a viewless message sendK
Whose airy flight their speed outstripsD
And all their yearnings hither tendK
I go to meet the coming shipsD
-
I tarry not by fortress oldL
Nor pause by any pleasant shoreM
But hasten eager to beholdL
Those brave leviathans once moreM
To welcome them with parted banksN
And kiss their prows with loving lipsD
And soothingly caress their flanksN
I go to meet the coming shipsD
