Sol Canadien, Terre Cherie Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCBCDEDE FGFHIIII IIIIJKJL IIIIDEDM

From the French of Isidore BedardA
-
O soil Canadian cherished earthB
The brave the noble peopled theeC
They left the country of their birthB
And sought a land of libertyC
It was from glorious France they cameD
They were the pick of warriors theyE
The shining lustre of their fameD
Is kept untarnished till to dayE
-
How beautiful thy fields appearF
How much thou hast to give contentG
All hail ye mountains that uprearF
Your lordly heights magnificentH
All hail St Lawrence' noble tideI
Hail land by Nature richly decktI
Thy children's hearts should throb with prideI
Thy sons should walk with head erectI
-
Still honor the protecting handI
Of Albion friend of the opprestI
And harbor no malicious bandI
Of traitors nourished in thy breastI
Yield never in the storm be braveJ
Thine only masters are thy lawsK
Thou wast not made to be a slaveJ
Fear not thy rights are Britain's causeL
-
If that belov'd protecting handI
Should ever fail thee undismay'dI
Stand by thyself alone my landI
Rejecting scorning foreign aidI
From glorious France thy founders cameD
They were the pick of warriors theyE
The shining lustre of their fameD
Unsullied shall be kept for ayeM
