Short Days Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGG

Now is the Sun erst spendthrift of his raysA
And lavish of his largesses of lightB
Become a miser in his latter daysA
An avaricious dotard alter'd quiteB
Is he the same that all the summer longC
Strew'd with ungrudging hand his gleaming goldD
Can such ill grace to high estate belongC
Can bright be dim can warm so soon be coldD
-
Ay but he goes his parsimonious wayE
And hoards his shining treasures from the viewF
And garners up his riches 'gainst the dayE
When Earth the prodigal shall beg anewF
Then to her need he'll give no niggard doleG
But wealth incalculable heart and soulG
