Rain For The Farmer Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

If gently falls the small soft lazy rainA
To indoor industries he shrewdly stealsB
And in the barn from some neglected grainA
The choking chaff the clattering fanner reelsB
Or in the shed the sapling ash he peelsB
For handles for the fork with humor blitheC
Or haply lards the tumbril's heavy wheelsB
Or of the harness oils the leather litheC
Or turns the tuneless stone and grinds the gleaming scytheD
-
But now the sky is black and now the StormE
Prepares his legions for the coming frayF
While murmurs low prelude the dread alarmG
As prayed the hosts like rob d monks who prayF
Mid slumb'rous incense in a cloister grayF
Till from yon cloud the fiery signal givenH
Enrages all their terrible arrayF
Jove's flaming car is o'er Olympus drivenH
And thunders roll along the threshing floors of heavenH
-
Hark to the rolling of the sulphurous seaI
Upon its shores its billows beat amainH
In angry tumult furious to be freeI
It rends the cloud with one tremendous strainH
The chasm is closed once more again in vainH
Again again Each time enraged to yieldJ
It hurls its threats in throes of Titan painH
While crouch the cattle 'neath their oak tree shieldJ
And horses frantic eyed in terror hoof the fieldJ
-
The screaming birds low flying seek their nestsK
The swaying sport of panic and the galeL
The tall trees trembling bend their creaking crestsK
The ramping engine shrieks upon the railL
How helpless all things seem how poor how frailL
Until the welkin warfare's awful knellM
Is voice of all below in piteous wailL
Alas for him who toils in Erie's swellM
And for the timid soul which loveth life too wellM
-
Still roars the thunder still the skies are rentN
With frenzied flame the swift electric chainH
Jerked clanging backward when its charge is spentN
Such overhead but now upon the plainH
There is a lull a listening for the rainH
The air grows still she feels 'twill not be longO
Like to a poet when o'er heart and brainH
The stern relentless tyranny of WrongO
In knolling tumult broods He knows 'twill break in songO
-
And now at last it comes crashing and coolP
And sweet well for the earth and what is sowedQ
Well for the harvest See it fills the poolP
In little streams goes leaping down the roadR
And now the winds are joyous and they goadR
Their fallen foe until he half repeatsS
His former fury One might think it snowedR
And sweep from the roofs like dust from driven streetsS
The spirits of the storm wrapt in their winding sheetsS
