Milton Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEDE FGFGHH

Say not that England ever kingless wasA
'Twixt Charles and Charles two royal men appearB
Cromwell to give her health with arms and lawsC
And Milton thou to speak out loud and clearB
For freedom of man's conscience and the stateD
For England and her deeds before the worldE
And for the victims of religious hateD
From Alpine summits pitilessly hurl'dE
-
Thou wast a Champion of LibertyF
In fair Italian cities thou had'st heardG
Her voice upon the north wind summon theeF
And like another Moses had'st preferr'dG
Affliction with thy brethren to the lureH
Of beauty art and cultur'd ease secureH
