In May Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABBCBDD EFEFFGFGG HIHIIJIJJ

Now is the time when swallows twitter roundA
And robin redbreasts carol in the treesB
When the grass grows very green on lower groundA
And opening buds embalm the buxom breezeB
When orchards murmur with the half blind beesB
Freed till th' uncellared hives again be fullC
The time when old men smile and maidens pleaseB
Loose zoned in summer dresses light and coolD
And laughing urchins shirk the lessons of the schoolD
-
Perchance it is the hour when dawn unveilsE
The visage of the day when o'er the barF
The radiant morning rides with saffron sailsE
Streamers of light on each resplendent sparF
Fraught with rich gifts Now sunk each faded starF
The Sun the Sun the glorious Lord of DayG
Behold he comes before his orb d carF
Caparisoned with gold in dazzling playG
Impatient dance his steeds to pace the purple wayG
-
Or is it in the cool and tranquil eveH
When shadows lengthen and the shades increaseI
When in the west celestial wonders weaveH
Gorgeous Nirvanas of absorbent peaceI
Transparency's impenetrable fleeceI
Clouds of all colors floating every wiseJ
On which the Sun looks up before he ceaseI
As some old man a moment ere he diesJ
Beholds with bliss serene the beauties of the skiesJ
