The Unknowing Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GCGC AHAH

If the bird knew how through the wintry weatherA
An empty nest would swing by day and nightB
It would not weave the strands so close togetherA
Or sing for such delightB
-
And if the rosebud dreamed e'er its awakingC
How soon its perfumed leaves would drift apartD
Perchance 'twould fold them close to still the achingC
Within its golden heartD
-
If the brown brook that hurries through the grassesE
Knew of drowned sailors and of storms to beF
Methinks 'twould wait a little e'er it passesE
To meet the old grey seaF
-
If youth could understand the tears and sorrowG
The sombre days that age and knowledge bringC
It would not be so eager for the morrowG
Or spendthrift of the springC
-
If love but learned how soon life treads its measureA
How short and swift its hours when all is toldH
Each kiss and tender word 'twould count and treasureA
As misers count their goldH
