The Temple Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABACC DEDFF GHGII JKJCC LMNOO PQPRR

Enter the temple beautiful The house not made with handsA
Rain washed and green wind swept and cleanB
Beneath the blue it standsA
And no cathedral anywhereC
Seemeth so holy or so fairC
-
It hath no heavy gabled roof no door with lock and keyD
No window bars shut out the starsE
The aisles are wide and freeD
Here through the night each altar lightF
Is but a moon beam silver whiteF
-
Silently as the temple grew at Solomon's commandG
Still as things seem within a dreamH
This rose from out the landG
And all the pillars grey and highI
Lifted their arches to the skyI
-
Here is the perfume of the leaves the incense of the pinesJ
The magic scent that hath been pentK
Within the tangled vinesJ
No censor filled with spices rareC
E'er swung such sweetness on the airC
-
And all the golden gloom of it holdeth no haunting fearL
For it is blessed and giveth restM
To those who enter hereN
Here in the evening who can knowO
But God Himself walks to and froO
-
And music past all mastering within the chancel ringsP
None could desire a sweeter choirQ
Than this that soars and singsP
Till far the scented shadows creepR
And quiet darkness bringeth sleepR
