The Slumber Angel Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAAB CDCCD EFEEF GCGGC

When day is ended and grey twilight fliesA
On silent wings across the tired landB
The slumber angel cometh from the skiesA
The slumber angel of the peaceful eyesA
And with the scarlet poppies in his handB
-
His robes are dappled like the moonlit seasC
His hair in waves of silver floats afarD
He weareth lotus bloom and sweet heartseaseC
With tassels of the rustling green fir treesC
As down the dusk he steps from star to starD
-
Above the world he swings his curfew bellE
And sleep falls soft on golden heads and whiteF
The daisies curl their leaves beneath his spellE
The prisoner who wearies in his cellE
Forgets awhile and dreams throughout the nightF
-
-
-
Even so in peace comes that great Lord of restG
Who crowneth men with amaranthine flowersC
Who telleth them the truths they have but guessedG
Who giveth them the things they love the bestG
Beyond this restless rocking world of oursC
