The Rover Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDB EFGFHF IJKJLJ MIFINO PQCQRQ

Though I follow a trail to north or southA
Though I travel east or westB
There's a little house on a quiet roadC
That my hidden heart loves bestB
And when my journeys are over and doneD
'Tis there I will go to restB
-
The snows have bleached it this many a yearE
The sun has painted it greyF
The vines hold it close in their clinging armsG
The shadows creep there to stayF
And the wind goes calling through empty roomsH
For those who have gone awayF
-
But the roses against the window paneI
Are the roses I used to knowJ
And the rain on the roof still sings the songK
It sang in the long agoJ
When I lay me down to sleep in a bedL
Little and white and lowJ
-
It is long since I bid it all good byeM
With young light hearted disdainI
I remember who stood at the door that dayF
Her tears fell fast as the rainI
And I whistled a tune and waved my handN
But never went back againO
-
Toll I have paid at the gates of the worldP
The sand I know and the seaQ
I have taken the wide and open roadC
With steps unhindered and freeQ
Yet like a bell ringing down in my heartR
My home is calling to meQ
