The Petition Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IJIJ

Sweet April from out of the hidden placeA
Where you keep your green and goldB
We pray thee to bring us a gift of graceA
When the little leaves unfoldB
-
Oh make us glad with the things that are youngC
Give our hearts the quickened thrillsD
That used to answer each robin that sungC
In the days of daffodilsD
-
For what is the worth of all that we gainE
If we lose the old delightF
That came in the time of sun and rainE
When the whole round world seemed rightF
-
It was then we gave as we went alongG
The faith that to day we keepH
And those April days were for mirth and songG
While the nights were made for sleepH
-
Yet though we follow with steps that are slowI
The feet that dance and that runJ
We would still be friends with the winds that blowI
And companions to the sunJ
