The Opal Month Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCCB DDEFFE GGHIIH FFJFFJ

Now cometh October a nut brown maidA
Who in robes of crimson and gold arrayedA
Hath taken the king's highwayB
On the world she smiles but to me it seemsC
Her eyes are misty with mid summer dreamsC
Or memories of the MayB
-
Opals agleam in the dusk of her hairD
Flash their hearts of fire and colours rareD
As she dances gaily byE
Yet she sighs for each empty swinging nestF
And she tenderly holds against her breastF
A belated butterflyE
-
The crickets sing no more to the starsG
The spiders no more put up silver barsG
To entangle silken wingsH
But the quail pipes low in the rusted cornI
And here and there both at night and at mornI
A lonely robin still singsH
-
A spice laden breeze of the south is blentF
With perfumed winds from the OrientF
And they weave o'er her a spellJ
For nun like she goeth now still and sweetF
And while mists like incense curl at her feetF
She lingers her beads to tellJ
