Saints Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDB EFGFHF GIJIGI KGGGLG IMNMOM

The Saints of Thy great Church ChristA
How vast their numbers beB
On holy page and ancient scrollC
Their blessed names we seeB
And from the painted window panesD
They smile eternallyB
-
Rope girdled monk and pallid maidE
And men who for Thy crossF
Fought with the Saracen of oldG
Counting their lives no lossF
Martyrs who rose through golden flamesH
Free of the body's drossF
-
Yet there be Saints uncanonisedG
Unrecognised unknownI
Here on the common roads of earthJ
Oft times they walk aloneI
Saints whom no soul hath ever praisedG
Saints whom no Church doth ownI
-
Men who against their souls' grim foesK
Wage an unyielding fightG
Men of new creeds and men of oldG
Men of dark hue and whiteG
Each pressing hard towards some far gleamL
Of Thy celestial lightG
-
Dwellers in places waste and loneI
Toilers upon the seasM
Mayhap they seldom pray high heavenN
Softly on bended kneesM
Yet in the roll call of Thy SaintsO
Dear Christ remember theseM
