Prairie Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEG HIHJ KLML

Where yesterday rolled long waves of goldA
Beneath the burnished blue of the skyB
A silver white sea lies still and coldA
And a bitter wind blows byB
-
But nothing passes the door all dayC
Though my watching eyes grow worn and dimD
Save a lean grey wolf that swings awayC
To the far horizon rimD
-
Then one by one the stars glisten outE
Like frozen tears on a purple pallF
The darkness folds my cabin aboutE
And the snow begins to fallG
-
I will make a hearth fire red and brightH
And set a light by the window paneI
For one who follows the trail to nightH
That will bring him home againJ
-
Love will ride with him my heart to blessK
Joy will out step him across the floorL
What matters the great white lonelinessM
When we bar the cabin doorL
