The Gean-trees Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AAAABBCDDC DEEDFFADDA GHHGIIADDDA

I mind when I dream at nichtA
Whaur the bonnie Sidlaws standA
Wi' their feet on the dark'nin' landA
An their heids i' the lichtA
An the thochts o' youth roll backB
Like wreaths frae the hillside trackB
In the Vale o' StrathmoreC
And the autumn leaves are turnin'D
And the flame o' the gean trees burnin'D
Roond the white hoose doorC
-
Aye me when spring cam' greenD
And May month decked the shawsE
There was scarce a blink o' the wa'sE
For the flower o' the geanD
But when the hills were blueF
Ye could see them glintin' throughF
An the sun i' the liftA
An the flower o' the gean trees fa'in'D
Was like pairls frae the branches snawin'D
In a lang white driftA
-
Thae trees are fair and gayG
When May month's in her primeH
But I'm thrawn wi' the blasts o' timeH
An my heid's white as theyG
But an auld man aye thinks langI
O' the hauchs he played amangI
In his braw youth tideA
An there's ane that aye keeps yearnin'D
For a hoose whaur the leaves are turnin'D
An the flame o' the gean tree burnin'D
By the Sidlaws' sideA
