Gin I should fa'A
Lord by ony chanceB
And they howms o' FranceB
Haud me for guid an' a'C
And gin I gang to TheeD
Lord dinna blameE
But oh tak' tent tak' tent o' an Angus lad like meD
An' let me hameD
-
I winna seek to bideF
Awa owre langG
Gin but Ye'll let me gangG
Back to yon rowin' tideF
Whaur aye Montrose my ainH
Sits like a queenH
The Esk ae side ae side the sea whaur she's set her laneH
On the bents betweenH
-
I'll hear the barI
Loupin' in its placeJ
An' see the steeple's faceJ
Dim i' the creepin' haarI
And the toon clock's sangG
Will cry through the weitF
And the coal bells ring aye ring on the cairts as they gangG
I' the drookit streetF
-
Heaven's hosts are gladF
Heaven's hames are brichtF
And in yon streets o' lichtF
Walks mony an Angus ladF
But my he'rt's aye backK
Whaur my ain toon standsL
And the steeple's shade is laid when the tide's at the slackK
On the lang sandsL
