Glory Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CBCB DEDE EBEB ABAB AEAE

I canna' see ye lad I canna' see yeA
For a' yon glory that's aboot yer heidB
Yon licht that haps ye an' the hosts that's wi' yeA
Aye but ye live an' it's mysel' that's deidB
-
They gae'd frae mill and mart frae wind blawn placesC
And grey toon closes i' the empty streetB
Nae mair the bairns ken their steps their facesC
Nor stand to listen to the trampin' feetB
-
Beside the brae and soughin' through the rashesD
Yer voice comes back to me at ilka turnE
Amang the whins an' whaur the water washesD
The arn tree wi' its feet amangst the burnE
-
Whiles ye come back to me when day is fleein'E
And a' the road oot by is dim wi' nichtB
But weary een like mine is no for seein'E
An' gin they saw they wad be blind wi' lichtB
-
Daith canna' kill The mools o' France lie o'er yeA
An' yet ye live O sodger o' the LordB
For Him that focht wi' daith an' dule afore yeA
He gie'd the life 'twas Him that gie'd the swordB
-
But gin ye see my face or gin ye hear meA
I daurna' ask I maunna' seek to kenE
Though I should dee wi' sic a glory near meA
By nicht or day come ben my bairn come benE
