Of metal strange and bright | F |
I made my toy a god I raised a throne | E |
To honour my delight | F |

This haunted byway of the grove was lit | G |
With lamps my hand had trimmed | H |
Before the altar in the midst of it | G |
I kept their flame undimmed | G |

My steps turned ever to the hidden shrine | I |
Aware or unaware | J |
My soul dwelt only in that spot divine | I |
And now a wreck lies there | J |

Give me to night to weep when dawn is spread | G |
Beyond the heavy trees | K |
And in the east the day is heralded | G |
By cloud wrought companies | K |

I shall have gathered up my heart's desire | L |
Broken destroyed adored | G |
