Constantinople - The Muezzin Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBA CDDC EFFE GHHG

Above the city at his feetA
Above the dome above the seaB
He rises unconfined and freeB
To break upon the noonday heatA
-
He turns around the parapetC
Black robed against the marble towerD
His singing gains or loses powerD
In pacing round the minaretC
-
A brother to the singing birdsE
He never knew restraining wallsF
But freely rises freely fallsF
The rhythm of the sacred wordsE
-
I would that it to me were givenG
To climb each day the muezzin's stairH
And in the warm and silent airH
To sing my heart out into HeavenG
