The Portrait Of A Child Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBACAC DEFD GHGH IJKLK

That brow that smile that cheek so fairA
Beseem my child who weeps and playsB
A heavenly spirit guards her waysB
From whom she stole that mixture rareA
Through all her features shining mildC
The poet sees an angel thereA
The father sees a childC
-
And by their flame so pure and brightD
We see how lately those sweet eyesE
Have wandered down from ParadiseF
And still are lingering in its lightD
-
All earthly things are but a shadeG
Through which she looks at things aboveH
And sees the holy Mother maidG
Athwart her mother's glance of loveH
-
She seems celestial songs to hearI
And virgin souls are whispering nearJ
Till by her radiant smile deceivedK
I say 'Young angel lately givenL
When was thy martyrdom achievedK
And what name lost thou bear in heaven '-
