HERNANI Act IIA
-
-
DONNA SOL Together let us flyB
-
HERNANI Together No the hour is past for flightC
Dearest when first thy beauty smote my sightC
I offered for the love that bade me liveD
Wretch that I was what misery had to giveE
My wood my stream my mountain Bolder grownF
By thy compassion to an outlaw shownF
The outlaw's meal beneath the forest shadeG
The outlaw's couch far in the greenwood gladeG
I offered Though to both that couch be freeH
I keep the scaffold block reserved for meH
-
DONNA SOL And yet you promisedI
-
HERNANI falls on his knee Angel in this hourJ
Pursued by vengeance and oppressed by powerJ
Even in this hour when death prepares to closeK
In shame and pain a destiny of woesL
Yes I who from the world proscribed and castM
Have nursed one dark remembrance of the pastM
E'en from my birth in sorrow's garment cladN
Have cause to smile and reason to be gladN
For you have loved the outlaw and have shedO
Your whispered blessings on his forfeit headO
-
DONNA SOL Let me go with youP
-
HERNANI No I will not rendO
From its fair stem the flower as I descendO
Go I have smelt its perfume Go resumeQ
All that this grasp has brushed away of bloomQ
Wed the old man believe that ne'er we metO
I seek my shade be happy and forgetO
