The Girl Of Otaheite Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABACDDEEF GHGHIIJJF FKFKLLMMF

Forget Can I forget the scented breathA
Of breezes sighing of thee in mine earB
The strange awaking from a dream of deathA
The sudden thrill to find thee coming nearC
Our huts were desolate and far awayD
I heard thee calling me throughout the dayD
No one had seen thee passE
Trembling I came AlasE
Can I forgetF
-
Once I was beautiful my maiden charmsG
Died with the grief that from my bosom fellH
Ah weary traveller rest in my loving armsG
Let there be no regrets and no farewellH
Here of thy mother sweet where waters flowI
Here of thy fatherland we whispered lowI
Here music praise and prayerJ
Filled the glad summer airJ
Can I forgetF
-
Forget My dear old home must I forgetF
And wander forth and hear my people weepK
Far from the woods where when the sun has setF
Fearless but weary to thy arms I creepK
Far from lush flow'rets and the palm tree's moanL
I could not live Here let me rest aloneL
Go I must follow nighM
With thee I'm doomed to dieM
Never forgetF
