Entre deux rocs d'un noir d' b neA
-
XXVII NovemberB
-
-
Between two ebon rocksC
Behold yon sombre denD
Where brambles bristle like the locksC
Of wool between the horns of scapegoat banned by menD
-
Remote in ruddy fogE
Still hear the tiger growlF
At the lion and strip d dogG
That prowl with rusty throats to taunt and roar and howlF
-
Whilst other monsters fastH
The hissing basiliskG
The hippopotamus so vastH
And the boa with waking appetite made briskG
-
The orfrey showing tongueG
The fly in stinging moodI
The elephant that crushes strongG
And elastic bamboos an the scorpion's broodI
-
And the men of the treesJ
With their families fierceK
Till there is not one scorching breezeJ
But brings here its venom its horror to pierceK
-
Yet rather there be loneL
'Mid all those horrors thereM
Than hear the sickly honeyed toneL
And see the swimming eyes of Noormahal the FairM
