Oh n'insultez jamais une femme qui tombeA

I tell you hush no word of sneering scornC
True fallen but God knows how deep her sorrowD
Poor girl too many like her only bornC
To love one day to sin and die the morrowD
What know you of her struggles or her griefE
Or what wild storms of want and woe and painF
Tore down her soul from honor As a leafE
From autumn branches or a drop of rainF
That hung in frailest splendor from a boughG
Bright glistening in the sunlight of God's dayH
So had she clung to virtue once But nowG
See Heaven's clear pearl polluted with earth's clayH
The sin is yours with your accursed goldI
Man's wealth is master woman's soul the slaveJ
Some purest water still the mire may holdI
Is there no hope for her no power to saveJ
Yea once again to draw up from the clayH
The fallen raindrop till it shine aboveK
Or save a fallen soul needs but one rayH
Of Heaven's sunshine or of human loveK
