Genius Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDD ECECFGFGEHI HJKLKLLWoe unto him the child of this sad earth | A |
Who in a troubled world unjust and blind | B |
Bears Genius treasure of celestial birth | A |
Within his solitary soul enshrined | B |
Woe unto him for Envy's pangs impure | C |
Like the undying vultures' will be driven | D |
Into his noble heart that must endure | C |
Pangs for each triumph and still unforgiven | D |
Suffer Prometheus' doom who ravished fire from Heaven | D |
- | |
Still though his destiny on earth may be | E |
Grief and injustice who would not endure | C |
With joyful calm each proffered agony | E |
Could he the prize of Genius thus ensure | C |
What mortal feeling kindled in his soul | F |
That clear celestial flame so pure and high | G |
O'er which nor time nor death can have control | F |
Would in inglorious pleasures basely fly | G |
From sufferings whose reward is Immortality | E |
No though the clamors of the envious crowd | H |
Pursue the son of Genius he will rise | I |
- | |
From the dull clod borne by an effort proud | H |
Beyond the reach of vulgar enmities | J |
'Tis thus the eagle with his pinions spread | K |
Reposing o'er the tempest from that height | L |
Sees the clouds reel and roll above our head | K |
While he rejoicing in his tranquil flight | L |
More upward soars sublime in heaven's eternal light | L |
