Monte cureuil monte au grand ch neA
Sur la branche des cieux prochaineA
Qui plie et tremble comme un joncB
Cigogne aux vieilles tours fid leC
Oh vole et monte tire d'aileC
De l' glise la citadelleC
Du haut clocher au grand donjonA
-
Vieux aigle monte de ton aireD
A la montagne centenaireD
Que blanchit l'hiver ternelC
Et toi qu'en ta couche inqui teA
Jamais l'aube ne vit muetteA
Monte monte vive alouetteA
Vive alouette monte au cielC
-
-
-
ExpectationA
-
Squirrel mount yon oak so highF
To its twig that next the skyF
Bends and trembles as a flowerD
Strain O stork thy pinion wellC
From thy nest 'neath old church bellC
Mount to yon tall citadelC
And its tallest donjon towerD
To your mountain eagle oldA
Mount whose brow so white and coldA
Kisses the last ray of evenA
And O thou that lov'st to markB
Morn's first sunbeam pierce the darkB
Mount O mount thou joyous larkB
Joyous lark O mount to heavenA
And now say from topmost boughG
Towering shaft and peak of snowA
And heaven's arch O can you seeA
One white plume that like a starD
Streams along the plain afarD
And a steed that from the warD
Bears my lover back to meA
