On A Deaf Housekeeper Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEEFFGGBBHHII| Of all life's plagues I recommend to no man | A |
| To hire as a domestic a deaf woman | B |
| I've got one who my orders does not hear | C |
| Mishears them rather and keeps blundering near | D |
| Thirsty and hot I asked her for a drink | E |
| She bustled out and brought me back some ink | E |
| Eating a good rump steak I called for mustard | F |
| Away she went and whipped me up a custard | F |
| I wanted with my chicken to have ham | G |
| Blundering once more she brought a pot of jam | G |
| I wished in season for a cut of salmon | B |
| And what she brought me was a huge fat gammon | B |
| I can't my voice raise higher and still higher | H |
| As if I were a herald or town crier | H |
| 'T would better be if she were deaf outright | I |
| But anyhow she quits my house this night | I |
