The fox and his wife they had a great strifeA
They never eat mustard in all their whole lifeA
They eat their meat without fork or knifeA
And loved to be picking a bone e hoB
-
The fox jumped up on a moonlight nightC
The stars they were shining and all things brightC
Oh ho said the fox it's a very fine nightC
For me to go through the town e hoB
-
The fox when he came to yonder stileD
He lifted his lugs and he listened a whileD
Oh ho said the fox it's but a short mileD
From this unto yonder wee town e hoB
-
The fox when he came to the farmer's gateE
Who should he see but the farmer's drakeF
I love you well for your master's sakeF
And long to be picking your bone e hoB
-
The gray goose she ran round the hay stackG
Oh ho said the fox you are very fatH
You'll grease my beard and ride on my backG
From this into yonder wee town e hoB
-
Old Gammer Hipple hopple hopped out of bedI
She opened the casement and popped out her headI
Oh husband oh husband the gray goose is deadI
And the fox is gone through the town ohB
-
Then the old man got up in his red capJ
And swore he would catch the fox in a trapJ
But the fox was too cunning and gave him the slipK
And ran thro' the town the town ohB
-
When he got to the top of the hillL
He blew his trumpet both loud and shrillL
For joy that he was safeM
Thro' the town ohB
-
When the fox came back to his denN
He had young ones both nine and tenN
You're welcome home daddy you may go againN
If you bring us such nice meatO
From the town ohB
