Take a robin's legA
Mind the drumstick merelyB
Put it in a tubC
Filled with water nearlyB
Set it out of doorsD
In a place that's shadyB
Let it stand a weekE
Three days if for a ladyB
Drop a spoonful of itF
In a five pail kettleG
Which may be made of tinH
Or any baser metalG
Fill the kettle upI
Set it on a boilingJ
Strain the liquor wellK
To prevent its oilingJ
One atom add of saltL
For the thickening one rice kernelG
And use to light the fireM

Let the liquor boilN
Half an hour no longerM
If 'tis for a manO
Of course you'll make it strongerM
Should you now desireM
That the soup be flavouryM
Stir it once aroundP
With a stalk of savouryM
When the broth is madeQ
Nothing can excell itF
Then three times a dayR
Let the patient smell itF
If he chance to dieS
Say 'twas Nature did itF
If he chance to liveT
Give the soup the creditU
