Categorical Courtship Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABBB CDCDCC CBCBEE FEFEEE CBCBGG CCCCGG

I sat one night beside a blue eyed girlA
The fire was out and so too was her motherB
A feeble flame around the lamp did curlA
Making faint shadows blending in each otherB
'Twas nearly twelve o'clock too in NovemberB
She had a shawl on also I rememberB
-
Well I had been to see her every nightC
For thirteen days and had a sneaking notionD
To pop the question thinking all was rightC
And once or twice had make an awkward motionD
To take her hand and stammer'd cough'd and stutter'dC
But somehow nothing to the point had utter'dC
-
I thought this chance too good now to be lostC
I hitched my chair up pretty close beside herB
Drew a long breath and then my legs I cross'dC
Bent over sighed and for five minutes eyed herB
She looked as if she knew what next was comingE
And with her feet upon the floor was drummingE
-
I didn't know how to begin or whereF
I couldn't speak the words were always chokingE
I scarce could move I seem'd tied to the chairF
I hardly breathed 'twas awfully provokingE
The perspiration from each pore came oozingE
My heart and brain and limbs their power seem'd losingE
-
At length I saw a brindle tabby catC
Walk purring up inviting me to pat herB
An idea came electric like at thatC
My doubts like summer clouds began to scatterB
I seized on tabby though a scratch she gave meG
And said Come Puss ask Mary if she'll have meG
-
'Twas done at once the murder now was outC
The thing was all explain'd in half a minuteC
She blush'd and turning pussy cat aboutC
Said Pussy tell him 'yes' her foot was in itC
The cat had thus saved me my categoryG
And here's the catastrophe of my storyG
