The Tree Of Life Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIJKLMLNOPQRS TUQCVQWXYZA2B2LMC2D2 UE2Broad daylight with a sense of weariness | A |
Mine eyes were closed but I was not asleep | B |
My hand was in my father's and I felt | C |
His presence near me Thus we often past | D |
In silence hour by hour What was the need | E |
Of interchanging words when every thought | F |
That in our hearts arose was known to each | G |
And every pulse kept time Suddenly there shone | H |
A strange light and the scene as sudden changed | I |
I was awake It was an open plain | J |
Illimitable stretching stretching oh so far | K |
And o'er it that strange light a glorious light | L |
Like that the stars shed over fields of snow | M |
In a clear cloudless frosty winter night | L |
Only intenser in its brilliance calm | N |
And in the midst of that vast plain I saw | O |
For I was wide awake it was no dream | P |
A tree with spreading branches and with leaves | Q |
Of divers kinds dead silver and live gold | R |
Shimmering in radiance that no words may tell | S |
Beside the tree an Angel stood he plucked | T |
A few small sprays and bound them round my head | U |
Oh the delicious touch of those strange leaves | Q |
No longer throbbed my brows no more I felt | C |
The fever in my limbs And oh I cried | V |
Bind too my father's forehead with these leaves | Q |
One leaf the Angel took and therewith touched | W |
His forehead and then gently whispered Nay | X |
Never oh never had I seen a face | Y |
More beautiful than that Angel's or more full | Z |
Of holy pity and of love divine | A2 |
Wondering I looked awhile then all at once | B2 |
Opened my tear dimmed eyes When lo the light | L |
Was gone the light as of the stars when snow | M |
Lies deep upon the ground No more no more | C2 |
Was seen the Angel's face I only found | D2 |
My father watching patient by my bed | U |
And holding in his own close prest my hand | E2 |
