| That would of flowers be undisputed queen | B |
| The lily and the rose long long had been | C |
| Rivals for that high honour Bards of power | A |
| Had sung their claims The rose can never tower | A |
| Like the pale lily with her Juno mien | B |
| But is the lily lovelier Thus between | B |
| Flower factions rang the strife in Psyche's bower | A |
| Give me a flower delicious as the rose | D |
| And stately as the lily in her pride | E |
| But of what colour Rose red Love first chose | D |
| Then prayed No lily white or both provide | E |
| And Flora gave the lotus rose red dyed | E |
| And lily white the queenliest flower that blows | D |
