Sonnet.--the Lotus Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCAABBADEDEEDLove came to Flora asking for a flower | A |
That would of flowers be undisputed queen | B |
The lily and the rose long long had been | C |
Rivals for that high honour Bards of power | A |
Had sung their claims The rose can never tower | A |
Like the pale lily with her Juno mien | B |
But is the lily lovelier Thus between | B |
Flower factions rang the strife in Psyche's bower | A |
Give me a flower delicious as the rose | D |
And stately as the lily in her pride | E |
But of what colour Rose red Love first chose | D |
Then prayed No lily white or both provide | E |
And Flora gave the lotus rose red dyed | E |
And lily white the queenliest flower that blows | D |
