Savitri. Part Iii Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDEDFDFD GHGIJKJKLKMK NONOOBOBKPKP

Death in his palace holds his courtA
His messengers move to and froB
Each of his mission makes reportA
And takes the royal orders LoB
Some slow before his throne appearC
And humbly in the Presence kneelD
Why hath the Prince not been brought hereE
The hour is past nor is appealD
Allowed against foregone decreeF
There is the mandate with the sealD
How comes it ye return to meF
Without him Shame upon your zealD
-
O King whom all men fear he liesG
Deep in the dark Medhya woodH
We fled from thence in wild surpriseG
And left him in that solitudeI
We dared not touch him for there sitsJ
Beside him lighting all the placeK
A woman fair whose brow permitsJ
In its austerity of graceK
And purity no creatures foulL
As we seemed by her lovelinessK
Or soul of evil ghost or ghoulM
To venture close and far far lessK
-
To stretch a hand and bear the deadN
We left her leaning on her handO
Thoughtful no tear drop had she shedN
But looked the goddess of the landO
With her meek air of mild commandO
Then on this errand I must goB
Myself and bear my dreaded brandO
This duty unto Fate I oweB
I know the merits of the princeK
But merit saves not from the doomP
Common to man his death long sinceK
Was destined in his beauty's bloomP
