What’s This Life All About Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABC DEFG HIHI JJKK LLMM NOPQP

Beneath these rain soaked trees I layA
Creating dreams on hardened clayA
Of days that were but never againB
Of long forgotten times and loves forgotten painC
-
Nobody feels the imperfections I feelD
And nobody dreams the nightmares I dreamE
For each day that passes another beginsF
With life s burning candle no happiness it bringsG
-
As the half light of sunlight slowly creeps to full lightH
Breaking through that early morning cryI
Reflecting on the sunflowers hibernating nightH
As the metamorphosis caterpillar turns to butterflyI
-
If destitution be my fateJ
Then leave me surrender at nature s gateJ
To explore my memories of wooden toys and wind up trainsK
Of bright sunny days and drenching rainsK
-
So please just walk away and leave me to my dreamsL
Of childhood days of pranks and schemesL
Of jack stones beehives and old pedal carsM
Crayons spiders and millions of starsM
-
To count these stars I m never aloneN
For they are the roof to my new homeO
With the moon my light if more I doubtP
So I ll rest here and wonderQ
What s this life all aboutP

Poet's note: It’s really just a story of a homeless person, dreaming of what was and what might be.
