I sat beside my wind up trainA
Of red and blue some tracks remainA
The key now rusted but yet in placeB
I fear to wind it you know just in caseB
-
There s my woollen brave stuffed teddyC
Yellow buttons for eyes wide open and readyC
To play once more on linoleum floorD
My past stares back bringing tears to my eyesE
An old banjo still there no strings no surpriseE
-
There s a painted wooden box all my sisters dollsF
She d sit them down their backs to the wallG
And call them each by name one she called LouiseH
Who s eyes would close when she lay downI
-
She did love her the most she told me soJ
Should I pick her up and take to her nowK
I wondered if her eyes would openL
She s been asleep for all these yearsM
Or would she be angered if wokenL
-
A beach ball bucket and spadeN
I remember those times of childhood daysO
Cold water sand dunes and sunL
Egg sandwich and milk and ice cream from momP
-
I m an old man of sevenL
Sitting here in my memory of heavenL
As life flickers by each blink of a tear filled eyeQ
Turning teddy away so he won t see I ve criedR
While lifting Louise her bright eyes opened wideR
-
Such a beautiful smile I held her a whileS
Then lay her back to never grow oldT
I glance round this wondrous spaceB
Of books and toys while memories unfoldT
I ll take a stroll to another placeB
To shuffle the cards of life once moreD
