Bib ‘n Brace Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCDCE FGHIJHKLD MAANMNOPO QQPQRRPQPS N

In bib n brace from Warwick hallA
Just twenty eight would start the callA
With canvas hat they marched in fileB
No fear they ll show beneath broad smileB
For this a war ne er seen beforeC
No words or dreams can warn young menD
Just what this war shall hold in storeC
So many boys in bib n brace so many tears their mothers faceE
-
Their numbers increase as they march onF
Through Clifton Toowoomba and Grantham townG
With more to join their ragged bandH
Their fearless dreams shall never waneI
They march through Laidley s clapping handsJ
Then into Ipswich and Brisbane s grandH
But this war was soon to take themK
These young boys with dreams in their eyesL
And volunteering menD
-
In sickening death their dreams pass byM
Their friends and neighbors and brothers allA
In fields they died having answered the callA
What has happened to those dreamsN
Beneath that warm November skyM
My God has forsaken these boys it seemsN
Some so young they couldn t voteO
But I wonder were their words in that letterP
One brave dying soldier wroteO
-
May God forgive me fo I have takenQ
Some grieving mothers sonQ
While leaving her to wonderP
If my soul s now blackened for what I ve doneQ
I pray this burning pain from bullet that I feelR
Is God s forgiveness while in this trench I kneelR
With dreams now scattered she should not wonderP
For soon tis I shall meet her sonQ
For soon my life will be no longerP
And all our dreams be goneS
