I had no idea the elf owlA
Crept into you in the secretB
Of nightC
-
I have torn myself out of many bitter placesD
In America that seemedE
-
Tall and green rooted in mid noonF
I wish I were the spare shadowG
Of the roadrunner I wish I wereH
The honest lover of the diamondbackI
And the tear the tarantula weepsJ
I had no idea you were so tallK
And blond in moonlightC
I got thirsty in the factoriesL
And I hated the brutal dry suns thereM
So I quitN
-
You were the shadowG
Of a hallwayO
In meP
-
I have never gone through that doorQ
But the elf owl's faceR
Is inside meP
-
SaguaroG
You are not one of the godsS
Your green arms lower and gather meP
I am an elf owl's shadow a secretB
Member of your familyP
