In winter time is strangely still | A |
The roof tree bare of leaves stands high | B |
A candelabrum for the sky | B |
And down below the lamplights glow | C |
And ours makes answer o'er the snow | C |

In summer time strange voices fill | A |
With ceaseless rustle of the leaves | D |
And birds that twitter in the eaves | D |
And all the vines entangled so | C |
The village lights no longer show | C |

Is just the house of Jack and Jill | A |
And whether showing or unseen | E |
Hid behind its leafy screen | E |
There's a star that points it out | F |
When the lamp lights are in doubt | F |
