Lines To A Pedantic Critic Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDEFFGGGHHGG

Critic should I vouchsafe to learn of theeA
Correct no doubt but cold my strains would beA
Now cold correctness I despise the nameB
Is that a passport through the gates of fameB
Thy pedant rules with care I studied onceC
Was I made wiser or a greater dunceC
Hence Critic hence I'll study them no moreD
My eyes are open'd and the folly's o'erE
When Genius opes the floodgates of the soulF
Fancy's outbursting tides impetuous rollF
Onward they rush with unresisted swayG
Sweeping fools pedants critics all awayG
Who would with obstacles their progress stayG
As mighty Ocean bids his waves complyH
With the great luminaries of the skyH
So Genius to direct his course arightG
Owns but one guide the inspiring God of lightG
