Lines, On The Death Of The Rev. Mr. B Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BBCCDDEEFFGHFFIIFFJJ KL

Supposed To Be Written By Miss B His SisterA
-
At God's command the vital spirit fledB
And thou my Brother slumber'st with the deadB
Alas how art thou changed I scarcely dareC
To gaze on thee dread sight death death is thereC
How does thy loss o'erwhelm my heart with griefD
But tears kind nature's tears afford reliefD
Reluctant sad I take my last farewellE
Thy virtues in my mind shall ever dwellE
Thy tender friendship felt so long for meF
Thy frankness truth thy generosityF
Thy tuneful tongue's persuasive eloquenceG
Thy science learning taste wit common senseH
Thy patriot love of genuine libertyF
Thy heart o'erflowing with philanthropyF
And chiefly will I strive henceforth to feelI
Thy firm religious faith and pious zealI
Enlighten'd liberal free from bigotryF
And that prime excellence thy charityF
Farewell for ever no forbid it HeavenJ
A glorious promise is to Christians givenJ
Though parted in this world of sin and painK
On high my Brother we shall meet againL
