Epigram To A Conceited & Affected, But Handsome Woman Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDEEFFGG

Why when I praise you Ma'am why tell me flatA
All flattery you despiseB
Self love the greatest flatterer tells you thatA
And I am sure he liesB

What a strong contrast to most modern sagesC
Were some philosophers of ancient agesD
E'en Socrates so wise yet modest tooE
Own'd he knew only that he nothing knewE
Now vain pretenders such presumption showF
They seem to fancy that they all things knowF
Ye moderns thus puff'd up with vanityG
Would that ye knew but half as much as heG
