Pale is Amelia's faceA
And red Lavinia's nose isB
The sisters ever jarC
'Tis like the civil warD
Between the rival rosesB
-
-
-
On that dark theme man's genealogyE
How strangely people's notions disagreeE
Sir Snub nose growling swears that he can traceA
Strong kindred likeness to the monkey raceA
My Lady Graceful smiles well pleased to findF
Far more resemblance to the Angelic kindF
Sure the reflection from their looking glassesG
Into their minds to prompt opinion passesG
Would be philosophers have tried to scanH
The pedigree of that odd creature manH
'We are of monkey race ' Sir Snub nose criesI
Your strange assertion strikes me with surpriseI
I for my part the compliment declineJ
But do you Sir sincerely thus opineJ
'I do indeed nay more I'm sure 'tis true '-
Is't possible Yet when I look on youK
I verily begin to think so tooK
-
-
-
'Oh Doctor I've had such a headache so badL
I was fearful I should have gone out of my senses '-
I should not have wonder'd dear Ma'am if you hadL
You'd not have to go far to leap over those fencesG
