Mothers Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBADED FGHIJKAK E

Through the vigils deep of the sable nightA
A mother sits in grief aloneB
For her sons have gone to the battle frontC
And left on the hearth a crushing stoneB
Beyond the stars that burn at nightA
She sees God's arm in pity reachD
It counsels patience love and faithE
Heroic hearts and souls to teachD
-
The blue is spann'd and the tide goes outF
And the stars rain down a kindlier cheerG
And the mother turns from this throne of griefH
To pierce the years with a joyous tearI
For duty born of a mother's heartJ
Fills all the rounds of our common dayK
Yea sheds its joy in the darkest nightA
And fills with light each hidden wayK
-
For Miss Ina CoolbrithE
