Langemarck Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFE GHCHIJDJ KLDLAKKK D

A glory lights the skies of FlandersA
Where the blood stained fields lie bareB
Where the clouds of war have gatheredC
Built their parapets in the airB
Halted stands the Teuton armyD
Checked its onslaught at a signE
Forward roll the warlike forcesF
Sons of Canada in lineE
-
Let them taste of Northern courageG
Where the lordly maple growsH
Let them face the heroes nurturedC
Where the stars have wed the snowsH
We are sons of sires undauntedI
Children of the hills and plainsJ
Ours a courage born of dutyD
Pluck and dash of many strainsJ
-
Tell it to our children's childrenK
How Canadians saved the dayL
Write it with the pen of historyD
Sing it as a fireside layL
How at Langemarck in FlandersA
Though the odds were eight to oneK
Our Canadians stood unbrokenK
Sword to sword and gun to gunK
-
For Sir Wilfrid LaurierD
