In The Trenches Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFE GHIHJKLK MNONPQRQ S

All day the guns belched fire and deathA
And filled the hours with gloomB
The fateful music smote the skyC
In tremulous bars of doomB
But as the evening stars came forthD
A truce to death and strifeE
There rose from hearts of patriot loveF
A tender song of lifeE
-
A song of home and firesideG
Swelled on the evening airH
And men forgot their battle lineI
Its carnage and dark careH
The soldier dropp'd his rifleJ
And joined the choral songK
As high above the tide of warL
It swept and pulsed alongK
-
That night while sleeping where the starsM
Look down upon the MeuseN
Where Teuton valor coped with FrankO
Where rained most deadly dewsN
A soldier youth in khaki cladP
Rock'd where the maples growQ
Smiled in his dream and saw againR
The blue St Lawrence flowQ
