Poem 1 From Pierce Penilesse Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBCCDEDEEEFGFGHHIH IHFF

Why ist damnation to dispaire and dieA
When life is my true happinesse diseaseB
My soule my soule thy safetye makes me flieC
The faultie meanes that might my paine appeaseB
Diuines and dying men may talke of hellC
But in my heart her seueral tormentes dwellC
Ah worthlesse Wit to traine me to this woeD
Deceitfull Artes that nourish DiscontentE
Ill thriue the Follie that bewicht me soD
Vaine thoughts adieu for now I will repentE
And yet my wants perswade me to proceedeE
Since none takes pitie of a Scollars needeE
Forgiue me God although I curse my birthF
And ban the aire wherein I breath a WretchG
Since Miserie hath daunted all my mirthF
And I am quite vndone through promise breachG
Oh friends no friends that then vngently frowneH
When changing Fortune casts us headlong downeH
Without redresse complaines my carelesse verseI
And Mydas eares relent not at my moaneH
In some far Land will I my griefes reherseI
Mongst them that will be mou'd when I shall groaneH
England adieu the Soyle that brought me foorthF
Adieu vnkinde where skill is nothing woorthF
