Lines On The Death Of Joseph Atkinson, Esq., Of Dublin Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHIH JKJK

If ever life was prosperously castA
If ever life was like the lengthened flowB
Of some sweet music sweetness to the lastA
'Twas his who mourned by many sleeps belowB
-
The sunny temper bright where all is strifeC
The simple heart above all worldly wilesD
Light wit that plays along the calm of lifeC
And stirs its languid surface into smilesD
-
Pure charity that comes not in a showerE
Sudden and loud oppressing what it feedsF
But like the dew with gradual silent powerE
Felt in the bloom it leaves along the meadsF
-
The happy grateful spirit that improvesG
And brightens every gift by fortune givenH
That wander where it will with those it lovesI
Makes every place a home and home a heavenH
-
All these were his Oh thou who read'st this stoneJ
When for thyself thy children to the skyK
Thou humbly prayest ask this boon aloneJ
That ye like him may live like him may dieK
