If Thou Wouldst Have Me Sing And Play Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEGHIHI ABABJKLK MNMNABAB

If thou wouldst have me sing and playA
As once I played and sungB
First take this time worn lute awayA
And bring one freshly strungB
Call back the time when pleasure's sighC
First breathed among the stringsD
And Time himself in flitting byC
Made music with his wingsD
-
But how is this tho' new the luteE
And shining fresh the chordsF
Beneath this hand they slumber muteE
Or speak but dreamy wordsG
In vain I seek the soul that dweltH
Within that once sweet shellI
Which told so warmly what it feltH
And felt what naught could tellI
-
Oh ask not then for passion's layA
From lyre so coldly strungB
With this I ne'er can sing or playA
As once I played and sungB
No bring that long loved lute againJ
Tho' chilled by years it beK
If thou wilt call the slumbering strainL
'Twill wake again for theeK
-
Tho' time have frozen the tuneful streamM
Of thoughts that gushed alongN
One look from thee like summer's beamM
Will thaw them into songN
Then give oh give that wakening rayA
And once more blithe and youngB
Thy bard again will sing and playA
As once he played and sungB
