THE LADYA
-
O cavalier what dost thou hereB
Thy tuneful vigils keepingC
While the northern star looks cold from farD
And half the world is sleepingC
-
-
THE KNIGHTE
-
O lady here for seven long yearF
Have I been nightly sighingC
Without the hope of a single tearG
To pity me were I dyingC
-
-
THE LADYA
-
Should I take thee to have and to holdH
Who hast nor lands nor moneyA
Alas 'tis only in flowers of goldH
That married bees flnd honeyA
-
-
THE KNIGHTE
-
O lady fair to my constant prayerG
Fate proves at last propitiousI
And bags of gold in my hand I bearG
And parchment scrolls deliciousI
-
-
THE LADYA
-
My maid the door shall open throwJ
For we too long have tarriedA
The friar keeps watch in the cellar belowJ
And we will at once be marriedA
-
-
THE FRIARK
-
My children great is Fortune's powerK
And plain this truth appearsL
That gold thrives more in a single hourK
Than love in seven long yearsL
