Margaret Love Peacock Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCE FGFG HIHI

Long night succeeds thy little dayA
Oh blighted blossom can it beB
That this grey stone and grassy clayA
Have clos'd our anxious care of theeB
-
The half form'd speech of artless thoughtC
That spoke a mind beyond thy yearsD
The song the dance by nature taughtC
The sunny smiles the transient tearsE
-
The symmetry of face and formF
The eye with light and life repleteG
The little heart so fondly warmF
The voice so musically sweetG
-
These lost to hope in memory yetH
Around the hearts that lov'd thee clingI
Shadowing with long and vain regretH
The too fair promise of thy springI
